Automated Juvenile Case Planning Software
In 2006, J-SAT will launch an automated case planning software for practitioners supervising juvenile offenders. The case planning process begins with identification of a juvenile offender’s risk and strength areas through the interview-driven assessment instrument, the Risk & Resiliency Check-Up (RRC). The automated case plan uses these identified risk and protective factors to determine appropriate target goals, action steps, and interventions based in Evidence-Based Practices (EBP). These are integrated with other court-assigned conditions to form a comprehensive case plan.
The EBP Toolbox, a feature of the automated case plan, offers the following tutorials providing clear, widely-applicable examples of how core EBP principles might be applied to case management of youthful offenders:

The Toolbox also offers practical suggestions for how to work with any of the following six situational conditions that might interface with a youth’s identified criminogenic needs: insufficient engagement/compliance, insufficient self-efficacy, insufficient social support, cognitive distortions, resistance, and relapse.
What difference will it make for my agency?
The establishment of new EBP work standards requiring probation officers to formulate and maintain adequate case plans will no doubt confront deficiencies in officers’ skills, motivation, time and other resources. This automated application will help to remedy these deficiencies by anticipating and appropriately addressing the requirements that accompany new standards. J-SAT’s fully automated juvenile case plan application is designed to help bridge the gap between new standards and existing skills.
The case planning application provides a comprehensive logic model for matching supervision obligations and supervision services to individual cases. Consequently, all case decisions made within the application will be adequately traceable for subsequent aggregate analysis and performance management purposes.
How can J-SAT help get us started?
When your agency decides to adopt the Automated Case Plan, J-SAT will provide:
-
Training in the software application, conducting assessments, and skills that maximize the benefits of case planning,
-
Technical support,
-
Ongoing updates based on new research and changes in EBP.
J-SAT is also working on a treatment Provider Yellow Pages Software application that completes the case planning process by providing a user-friendly, searchable database of local programs that offer services recommended by the case planning software. Practitioners will be able to match offenders to the most appropriate service provider at the closest location with just a few mouse clicks! Find out more.
